Cell phone tower burns near Beacon Hill in spectacle visible for miles

[PHOTO: Firefighters allow the wires and insulation on this cell tower near the 12th Avenue Bridge to burn out, rather than pump water onto electrical components (NW Newsradio)]

The fire stated around 3:15 a.m. Thursday. It burned brightly for a short time until, firefighters say, the fuel of plastic wires and insulation simply burned out. Click the play arrow above for Corwin Haeck’s report from the scene.
