(WASHINGTON, DC) — Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and other progressive leaders say they will introduce legislation to codify the rights of food service employees.
Working with the labor group ROC United, lawmakers have outlined a number of demands that would be written into federal law, including:
- Requiring not just a living wage but a ‘thriving’ wage
- Better health and time off benefits
- The right to a safe and dignified work environment
Such legislation may have support from progressive leaders, but would undoubtedly face a significant hurdle in the US Senate where Republicans could easily filibuster.
