(SEATTLE) Two local freeways will experience closures this weekend, and for the second weekend in a row, there will just be one route across Lake Washington.
Crews will continue their work on widening State Route 520 in Montlake, and as result, will close both directions of 520 from Interstate Five to 92nd Avenue from 11pm Friday through early Monday morning.
Steve Peer with the Washington Department of Transportation says he doesn’t expect the gridlock we saw last weekend on I-90, because this is a set closure that won’t change the entire weekend. Last weekend, a key ramp allowing Mercer Island residents onto westbound I-90 had to be closed after traffic lined-up across the island while it was open.
Over on Interstate Five, the “Revive I-5” work that has been taking place most weekends since Spring is beginning to wrap-up. This weekend’s work will be confined to just the far right side of the freeway. That means drivers should expect the right lane of southbound I-5 between I-90 and the West Seattle Bridge to close at 9:30pm Friday, and remain closed through sometime Sunday. This also means the ramps to Colombian way and the West Seattle Bride will be closed. A signed detour to the West Seattle Bridge will be set-up at the Michigan Street exit.
