(LYNNWOOD) In 2021, the Lynnwood city council voted to end its $40 car tab fee, only to have the mayor VETO the idea.
Now, the same thing has happened in 2022.
The council had 4 votes in support, and said they want the tab fee to go away because it was never approved by voters. Halloween night, Mayor Christine Frizzell pulled her trick…or treat…depending on your perspective.
“I veto ordinance 3416 to allow us to continue investing in our infrastructure,” Frizzell read from prepared remarks. “Vehicle license fees are a fair and equitable funding source for our city’s streets.
No one seemed surprised. Last year as a council member, Frizzell opposed the first effort to get rid of the car tab fee.
It takes five votes to override a mayoral veto in Lynnwood. The original vote included 4 council members saying yay, and one member abstaining. If that council member were to decide to side with the quartet, the next Lynnwood city council meeting November 14th could be the final showdown for the fees, which add over 2-million dollars for road maintenance.
