State to shutter COVID-19 website

(OLYMPIA, Wash.) — Coronavirus.wa.gov had become a critical distribution platform for data and other information during the COVID-19 pandemic. But beginning December 1st, the state will decommission the site and move all public health data to the Department of Health’s website, doh.wa.gov.

The agency says the move reflects the end of the governor’s emergency proclamation and a streamlining of online resources.

The Department of Health will continue to monitor COVID cases, but a central repository for all the data is no longer needed, based on declining web traffic.

Washington state was home to the first American case of COVID, and nearly 15-thousand residents died of the disease over the course of the pandemic.
