(LAKE STEVENS) The city of Lake Stevens has turned-off the comments on its Facebook page, citing too many spam accounts were using it.
Any agency, organization, or city will tell you that a social media presence requires manpower. You have to read, edit, patrol, and distribute messages to the right department.
Dawn Smith with the city tells the Herald “We aren’t looking to prevent people from saying anything about the city. It was just the best option available to us, because we don’t have the bandwidth to read every single comment.”
So Lake Stevens won’t let you comment anymore on it’s Facebook page. Some residents say they’re using a valuable forum. One resident told the Herald he doesn’t notice the spam accounts the city is citing as the reason to not allow comments.
City council president Kim Daughtry says he doesn’t know who made the call but he understands it, saying these comments are often one sided, negative, and the commenter seems disinterested in resolution.
Daughtry says he’s recently made an effort to contact those who sent in negative emails to the city. He made six calls and says no one has called him back so far.
