4th of July Fireworks over Lake Union in Seattle
The excitement is building around Lake Union as crews put the finishing touches on the annual Seafair 4th of July Fireworks show.
“Starting all the way back in January when we started the sound track they started sourcing the shells” Big fireworks shows don’t just happen, they have to be carefully choreographed says Seafair President & CEO Eric Corning “They’re loading the shells into the correct tubes so that when it’s time to go they’ll actually fire-off at the right time.”
It’s 18-minutes of spectacular colors and jaw rattling sounds “This fireworks show has been noted by USA TODAY as like one of the ‘Top 10’ fireworks shows to watch around the country.”
90% of the fireworks are American made, but the pyrotechnics won’t start until 10:20 pm “That number has been figured out over the years of like ‘When is it truly dark enough’ to be able to do this” it’s a tried-n-true formula Corning says “We want the fireworks to be bright in the sky and have great color, we also want to make sure the cityscape behind us will show up.”
That’s life in the Pacific Northwest, but this year there’s a bonus he says, “We’re going to be 82 (degrees) during the day and then (tonight) we’re going to be 70 or 69 (degrees) when the fireworks are supposed to start and I’m like ‘This is Just Perfect’.”
Perfect! And, you won’t get much argument in these parts.
