Lawmakers flock to regulate surveillance cams

(OLYMPIA, Wash.) – In an effort to balance public safety with personal privacy, numerous cities are ending their use of automated license plate readers. The Flock-branded cameras are coming down in places like Olympia and Mountlake Terrace, but other jurisdictions are keeping them up. Now, state lawmakers are jumping into the mix, hoping to regulate the use of public surveillance equipment and who can access the images.
