In this one-hour Memorial Day special, Denise Whitaker Reports: Service & Sacrifice, Denise shares the stories of military families, service members, veterans, and community leaders across Western Washington who carry the meaning of Memorial Day in deeply personal ways.
The special features Lisa Hallett, whose husband, Army Captain John Hallett, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009, and whose grief helped inspire Wear Blue, Run to Remember. Denise also speaks with KVI’s Ari Hoffman about honoring Jewish veterans buried in North Seattle, and with active service members at the USO Northwest lounge at Sea-Tac Airport about the friends and colleagues they remember on Memorial Day. Finally, Denise examines the fallen comrade table and its tribute to prisoners of war, those missing in action, and those who never came home.
