Starting this Friday, northbound I-5 across Seattle’s Ship Canal Bridge will undergo a significant four-week construction project, beginning with a full weekend closure of the mainline. The freeway will be reduced to just two lanes through August 15 as crews repave and repair the bridge’s two left lanes and upgrade stormwater drainage.
From Friday evening through Monday morning, northbound I-5 will be closed from the I-90 interchange to Northeast 45th Street. After that, the bridge will remain down to two lanes northbound for the duration of the four-week work window.
To ease traffic, the express lanes will run northbound 24/7 during construction. Later this year, weekend lane reductions will also begin on southbound I-5 as the next phase of the multi-stage project gets underway.
