Study: Recreational marijuana labels inaccurate, misleading

Labeling of recreational marijuana products is woefully inaccurate, according to research conducted at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

The study found that pot labels often do not reflect the chemical makeup of the product.

Names like indica and sativa are typically used within the industry to distinguish one strain of marijuana from another. Sativa is supposed to provide an energetic high, while indica is said to be more relaxing.

Scientists looked at pot sold in Washington and several other states only to find that labeling used inconsistent standards, or often didn’t match what was being sold.

The study appears in the science and medical journal PLUS One.
