Gov/Dems propose abortion rights in State Constitution, sanctuary state law

(Governor Jay Inslee and lawmakers at Western Washington University to announce plans to solidify abortion rights)

The Governor and Democratic lawmakers say they’ll try to make the right to an abortion part of the State Constitution.

In addition to the constitutional amendment, which would require some Republican support in Olympia to get the necessary 2/3 majority to pass it, Governor Jay Inslee and Democrats plan on a bill to make Washington an abortion sanctuary state to protect women who come here for services.  Inslee has already ordered the State Patrol not to cooperate with out-of-state abortion investigations and, “I immediately authorized the expenditure of over a million dollars,” Inslee says, “to help our reproductive clinics be able to handle the surge for women coming to the State of Washington.”

Democrats also plan legislation to prevent other states with abortion bans from using online search histories and other data in criminal cases.

The Washington State Republican Party sent Northwest Newsradio a statement, which reads:

“Governor Inslee and the democrats are desperate to stop losing voters due to their mismanagement of the economy and the rising crime caused by their poor policy decisions.”

“Washington state law, twice decided by the voters of our state, already establishes legal abortions in our state up until viability, with exceptions for the health of the mother. Unlike Democrats who consistently vote against the wishes of the voters, Republicans respect Washington voters and are focused on bringing to Olympia a renewed focus on restoring affordability and restoring public safety – issues the Democrats are willfully ignoring.”
