(SEATTLE) Three weeks ago, we set a record for the second warmest October day in history.
Today, it may snow in places, and tonight, it might freeze.
Wait a minute, what happened to fall?
“Yeah, we basically went from summer to winter,” says Gary Schneider at the Seattle office of the National Weather Service. “We skipped over fall it seems like. These are more like the temperature we see in January.”
But again, we may see them starting tonight through the rest of the week.
Schneider warns that the snow level in places will be down to 500 feet today, which means widespread snow is possible, especially in the foothills and up north. And then temperatures drop even more by Tuesday night…to freezing in Seattle, to the 20s in Everett and Tacoma, and possibly to the teens in Bellingham and the mountain passes.
This trend will continue for the rest of the week, along with very unseasonable afternoon high temperatures.
“We’re going to be mostly in the 40s…low to mid 40s…for the next few days,” Schneider says. “For context, we’re normally mid-to-upper 50s in early November.”
Shelters throughout the Puget Sound region plan to open tonight and remain open for the rest of the week for those without homes.
