Convicted Killer Marcel Long made eye contact with grieving family and friends during his sentencing on 2nd degree murder charges. June 30, 2023.
An explosive afternoon in a Seattle Courtroom during the sentencing of a man convicted of killing a rival during the CHOP uprising.
“I don’t give a (bleep) about you” video evidence showed Marcel Long, now 22-years old, chasing and shooting 19-year-old Lorenzo Anderson Jr in June of 2020.
“He tried to run from this situation” Donita St Claire-Martin told the court as she unleashed a torrent of rage at Long, like only a grieving mother can “They beat him and then they shot him and then your system left him for dead.”
Seattle Police had already abandoned their precinct in the CHOP Zone and 1st responders wouldn’t cross the barricades to treat Lorenzo.
“You guys greased the (f***) outta my brother and I hate you for it” the raw emotion from Lorenzo’s oldest sister during victim impact statements sparked courtroom confrontation that threatened to become violent between as many as 50 people from both families.
“You ain’t never felt hurt until you’ve lost someone you truly love” Horace Anderson talked for more than 45 minutes about the pain from his son’s death “It’s a different kind of pain, you can’t take medicine for it! I cry, I’m a big man, I’m HURT!”
Long received 14-years in prison for 2nd degree murder; a lesser sentence admits Sr Prosecuting Attorney Brandy Gevers “The state supreme court requires the defendants age and lack of maturity at the time of crime be considered.”
Long, 18-years-old at the time of the crime, made eye contact with every family member and friend of Lorenzo Anderson Jr as they spoke before the court.
King County Superior Court Judge Karen Donohue could have given the defendant a longer sentence, but chose to go with the recommendation made by the prosecuting attorney’s office.
A psychological analysis found a learning disability Gevers told the court, that left Marcel long with the mental capacity of someone as young as 11-years old.
