In 1962, the “Telstar” communications satellite sent the first live television broadcast from the United States to Europe. Just three years after that, in 1999, Eileen Collins made history as the first woman to command a U.S. space flight with the launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia. Then in 2000, Tiger Woods, at just 24 years old, became the youngest player to win the career Grand Slam after his victory at the British Open. And this day in music history—15 years ago in 2010—One Direction was formed on the TV show The X Factor by combining five solo contestants.
