(SEATTLE, Wash.) — On National Gun Violence Awareness Day, King County and the Regional Peacekeepers Collective handed out hundreds of safe storage boxes and trigger locks.
Three events were held. One each in Seattle, Skyway, and Kent.
“The summer of 2022 is already trending toward being the most violent summer in the region’s history,” County Executive Dow Constantine said at the Seattle event.
Brian Gatenwood was there to pick up a lock box for his family. “I’m a legal gun owner, but I’m also a father,” he said. “Number one is safety. So I’m definitely going to ensure that access to these [guns] is limited, if not existent at all.”
Volunteers said if one life is saved, their efforts would be worth it.
