(SEATTLE) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has followed the lead of the FDA, and now the COVID vaccine is approved for those age 4 and younger. The Western States Scientific Safety work group yesterday also gave it’s blessing.

Local parents told Northwest Newsradio they are relieved to have this opportunity for their children, a group that has had to wait while everyone else gets the green light for the vaccine. Older siblings of these younger ones have even been “boosted” by now.

“This is really big news,” Pediatrician Doctor Susanna Block told KOMO-4. “And it’s exciting news. It’s actually really important for our entire community. The more people who are vaccinated, it will help with our caseload, and help protect our more vulnerable community members.”

Block urges parents to start scheduling appointments right away for the vaccine.

“Get vaccinated as soon as possible. The decision we make now is really going to impact how the fall looks. That’s going to impact daycare, going back to school,” she says.

Most pharmacies will be able to start giving the vaccine to young kids this week. Childrens’ Hospital has vaccine event planned for tomorrow.
