(SEATTLE) While the official Juneteenth was yesterday, the holiday is being observed today for the first time at the federal level. This means several people are still navigating through exactly what to be doing today.

And while some local cities and counties have marked Juneteenth in the past, now that it’s a city, state and federal holiday, you can expect the usual holiday closures. This means no mail, most banks are closed, and street parking is free in places like downtown Seattle.

While many of the celebrations were held over the weekend, today is the observance of Juneteenth, and local employers are addressing it in a variety of ways.

For corporate T-Mobile, Starbucks, and Expedia employees, it’s a paid day off. Costco and Kaiser Permanente gave employees an extra floating holiday this year they could use for Juneteenth.

But everyone’s to report for duty at Microsoft today. According to a statement from the company, it hopes to involve its workforce in a day of “exploration, learning, and engagement” rather than give workers a paid day off.
