No more free lunch as pandemic-era federal program ends

Throughout the pandemic a U.S. Department of Agriculture program reimbursed K-thru-12 schools for meals, allowing schools to feed every kid for free. With the end of that program, schools will charge for meals again. Just as before the pandemic, free and reduced-price meals will be available to low-income families, but parents will have to reapply for those programs.
