(SEATTLE, Wash.) — Mayor Bruce Harrell has signa $6.5 million piece of legislation known as Seattle’s ‘Green new Deal’ into law.
The measure is package of investments that include:
- $2.4 Million to develop “Environmental Resilience Hubs” to ensure communities are prepared for climate change-related emergencies such as heat waves and wildfire smoke.
- $2.3 Million to get all City-owned buildings off fossil fuels by 2035.
- $300,000 to develop a system to track data used to examine the effects of climate change
“During times of increasingly severe climate events […], it’s critical that everyone have access to clean, filtered air and cooling,” Mayor Harrell said in a statement.
The plan is funded through the Jumpstart Seattle payroll expense tax that was passed in 2020.
