Have you seen the prices for home appliances? They’re jaw-dropping.
If the old fridge, washer, or dryer breaks, and a new one won’t work with your budget, you ,ay want to consider a used model.“Preowned appliances could be 50% to 75% less than current retail prices, so that’s definitely a way to go, if you want to save the most,” said Mandy Walker, a personal finance journalist with Consumer Reports. “Go to a used appliance store or a repair shop and you can typically get a warranty there as well, which is really good. It’s probably only going to be about six months long, but that’s something to look for.”
If you’re in the store, ask about demonstrator models. My wife and I saved a ton of money on a great washer-dryer combo by getting the demo models that were on sale. And we got the full warranty.
For good deals on electronics, such as cell phones, computers, monitors, TVs, gaming systems, even home security systems, think refurbished.
“Refurbished electronics or electronics that have been returned to the manufacturer, they’ve tested them, made any repairs that are necessary, and you can get a great deal on those as well. And also, a warranty.” Walker said.
Both manufactures and big box stores sell refurbished items. You can find those deals on their online outlet stores.
