Rain cancels one major road closure, but not all

(SEATTLE) Rain in the Seattle-area has prompted contractors to call-off planned work on I-5 in Everett this weekend, but drivers trying to get across Lake Washington won’t be as lucky.

Inclement weather won’t stop this weekend’s closure of all westbound lanes of State Route 520 between the eastern shore of Lake Washington and Interstate Five.

Steve Peer with the Washington State Department of Transportation says they need time to build more supports for the new Montlake lid that will allow more lane capacity between Montlake and Interstate Five. But they don’t require a full freeway closure, so eastbound 520 traffic won’t be impacted.

The closure of all westbound lanes of 520 begins at 11pm Friday, and continues through early Monday morning.

Also, the 520 trail across the lake for pedestrians and bicyclists will be closed during the same time period.
