(SPOKANE) A man wanted in Spokane for the murder of his wife three years ago, has been tracked down and arrested in Europe.

Detective allege after Wahid Kashify killed his wife, he first went to Afghanistan.

“This biggest challenge is that Afghanistan is a non-extradition country,” Spokane detective Mark Melville said at a press conference. “He had extended family there, a lot of places that he could go.”

Melville says with the help of the FBI they tracked him through Iran, then Turkey.

Meantime back in Spokane, they found Kashify’s car, and a written statement.

“He admitted to the homicide and gave a full confession as to why he did it,” Melville said. “It’s very telling.”
Why would he do that?

“I think that he felt he was going to get away with it and live free, just not in the United States.”

And that may have been the case, until detectives got word he would be at a volleyball tournament somewhere in Europe. The exact location was not disclosed, but local officers swooped in and arrested him.

Kashify will be extradited back to Spokane to face murder charges.
