(BELLINGHAM) For months we have been warned of another wave of COVID infections by early winter.
Now, we may be seeing the first signs of this wave.
Overall, Washington’s COVID numbers on the CDC chart look good. All counties are green, which mean community infection numbers are low.
But new, daily cases still exist.
And in Whatcom County, these COVID positives may be responsible for sending more people to the hospital. St Joseph Hospital in Bellingham reports an uptick in COVID admissions this week after several weeks of not seeing so much as a blip.
Chief Medical Officer Doctor Sudhakar Karlapudi tells the Herald he thinks this is happening because more people are inside not wearing masks.
“Please mask, please social distance, get your flu shot and your COVID booster,” Karlapudi says.
While COVID hospitalizations are up, Kalapudi says they’re also seeing more people come in with complications from the flu and RSV.
