Governor Jay Inslee has been busy drumming up green economy business among his other activities at the United Nations annual climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
The messages from the COP 27 conference have been an urgent call to act with certain climate measures at critical points (what scientists call a “Code Red”) but, in a one-on-one with Northwest Newsradio’s Ryan Harris from Egypt, Governor Inslee says we already see it here with water too acidic to grow oysters or too hot for spawning salmon and wildfire smoke he says makes cleaner air for our kids a priority so “they can go outside and play in the summer so this forest fire smoke won’t devastate their lungs,” Inslee says, “but, ultimately, we’ve got to get on top of climate change to give our kids a chance at a healthy Washington State.”
Inslee says a lot of Washington business people are in Egypt, but he’s using the opportunity to draw more green economy jobs here – everything from cement produced with lower carbon emissions to greener ship building and even nuclear power.
The Governor says he’s proud of the state as a leader in climate policy, and he hopes showing the world how Washington faces climate issues will help other nations advance.
