Another historic day in Washington as Governor Jay Inslee signs a series of bill protecting women, abortion services and healthcare providers on Thursday.
“We cannot predict what the Supreme Court will do in the Texas decision”the five bills signed by the Governor serve as a hardline stand against future court decisions.
But securing the abortion drug Mifepristone secures that independence “It can be legally distributed under our state law” Jay Inslee told a crowd at the University of Washington “Nothing the Supreme Court does will allow the Republicans to stop women from having access to Mifepristone.”
New laws now eliminate the cost of abortion services; but protecting personal health information, available publicly through period tracking apps was a serious concern. “In testimony we heard from a location date broker” Senator Manka Dhingra was a prime sponsor “(who) Sold location data of people who visited abortion clinics, including more than 600 Planned Parenthood clinics.”
The legal rights of woman coming from other states are now protected in Washington; as well as the Doctors and healthcare workers providing abortions. “States like Texas will not be able to use Washington state courts or Washington state judicial process to enforce their anti-abortion laws” said an animated State Representative Drew Hansen.
And, the Department of Corrections is now legally cleared to distribute a three year supply of Mifepristone “We are able to guarantee access” says Senator Karen Keiser “It’s one thing to have a right, but unless you have access you don’t really have a right.”
