Universal Takes Another Shot at Miami Vice
Universal Pictures is diving back into the world of pastel suits and fast cars with a brand-new theatrical remake of Miami Vice. While plot details are still under wraps, the upcoming film will draw inspiration from the iconic TV series that ran from 1984 to 1989 and defined a generation of slick, stylish crime dramas.
This won’t be Hollywood’s first attempt to revive the franchise on the big screen. In 2006, a film adaptation starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx hit theaters but failed to make a lasting impression, both critically and commercially.
This time around, however, there’s reason to be optimistic. The project is being helmed by Joseph Kosinski, the director behind Top Gun: Maverick, who earned praise for turning a beloved legacy title into a box office smash. With Kosinski at the helm, expectations are high that Miami Vice might finally get the reboot it deserves.
Turbulence Behind the Scenes of Top Gun: Maverick
Speaking of Top Gun, Paramount Pictures is now facing a legal challenge related to the blockbuster sequel. Shaun Gray, a cousin of Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Eric Singer, has filed a lawsuit claiming he played a key role in shaping the film’s final screenplay.
According to Gray, he collaborated closely with both Singer and director Joseph Kosinski and has kept “meticulous, time-stamped files” as evidence of his contributions. He alleges these documents prove he was instrumental in the development of the script, and he’s now seeking recognition—and compensation—for his work.
