(SEATTLE, Wash.) — For the eighth time in 16 years, Seattle has a new mayor.
Katie Wilson was sworn in Friday, as City Hall takes a hard turn to the left.
Wilson is a self-described socialist and was one of several liberal challengers who unseated more moderate incumbents last November.
Even though she has little management or budgetary experience, she now leads the largest city in the region.
Wilson has outlined a list of progressive priorities and will have a largely sympathetic City Council on her side.
But the position of Seattle mayor has largely been a dead-end job for several decades. No mayor has won a second term since Greg Nickels was re-elected in 2005.
Can Wilson deliver on her promises and solve the city’s most critical problems?
We’ll hear what she and her predecessor have to say.
