September 18.  On this day in history—back in 1793—President George Washington laid the cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol. In 1851, The New York Times rolled off the press for the first time. Fast forward to 1964, and we met the delightfully spooky Wednesday when The Addams Family premiered on ABC. In 1983, Kiss shocked fans by performing on MTV without their signature makeup. In 2006, Anousheh Ansari became the first woman space tourist—and the first Iranian and Muslim woman in space. In 2017, Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy, signaling the end of an era.
