In 1979, Pope John Paul II became the first pope to visit the White House. In 1993, Michael Jordan shocked fans by retiring from the NBA—he returned in 1995 and led the Bulls to three more titles. In 2021, the World Health Organization recommended the first malaria vaccine for children.
