In 1958, Congress authorized the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known as NASA. Ice cream lovers may remember that in 1987, Ben & Jerry’s debuted “Cherry Garcia” in honor of Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia. Swimming legend Michael Phelps set a new world record in 2009 at the World Championships in Rome, winning the 200-meter butterfly in 1:51.51. In 2010, President Barack Obama made history as the first sitting U.S. president to appear on a daytime talk show, The View. Fast forward to 2016, Hillary Clinton shattered a political glass ceiling by accepting the Democratic nomination for president—the first woman to do so.
