Today In History: Thankful for the Constitution

November 26.  On this day in 1789, President George Washington used Thanksgiving Day to honor the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, marking the first national celebration of the holiday. In 1922, archaeologist Howard Carter stepped into the tomb of King Tut, unveiling one of history’s greatest discoveries. The 29th Heisman Trophy in 1963 went to Navy quarterback Roger Staubach. Five years later, in 1968, USC running back O.J. Simpson claimed the 34th Heisman. In 1989, America’s Funniest Home Videos aired its first special, paving the way for its weekly debut the following January. In 2003, the supersonic Concorde made its final flight, returning to Bristol, England. Then in 2018, General Motors announced it would cut 14,000 jobs as it prepared to close five factories. And on this day in 2012, the number-one song in the country was “Diamonds” by Rihanna. And that’s today’s Almanac, on Northwest Newsradio.
