September 11.  On this day in 1941, construction began on the Pentagon, later dedicated in 1943. In 1954, 19-year-old Lee Ann Meriwether won the first Miss America pageant broadcast on television. “The Carol Burnett Show” made its CBS debut in 1967, and in 1974, “Little House on the Prairie” premiered. In 2001, the U.S. was attacked by terrorists who hijacked four planes, killing thousands—a tragedy that led to the war in Afghanistan. We remember those lost on 9/11. In 2009, Michael Jordan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. In 2019, scientists detected water on a planet outside
