In 1940, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was officially dedicated in North Carolina. Five years later, in 1945, President Harry S. Truman declared this day as V-J Day, marking the end of World War II. Fast forward to 1969, when NBC canceled Star Trek—but that same year, the first ATM in America began dispensing cash in New York City. In 1995, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened its doors in Cleveland, Ohio.
