Meanwhile, new findings are offering hope for people who work extremely early shifts. Anyone who starts work before 7 a.m. knows fatigue often comes with the job. Researchers with Mass General Brigham say early shift work can lead to excessive tiredness, trouble focusing, lower performance and safety concerns. Through clinical trials, researchers found the drug Solriamfetol may help reduce excessive sleepiness in early morning workers.

And while cortisol is often called the body’s “stress hormone,” doctors say there is no need for most people to panic about their levels. Cortisol naturally rises and falls throughout the day. Medical experts note that cortisol disorders are rare and can be difficult to diagnose. Doctors advise against self-diagnosing with online tests or using unproven supplements, and instead recommend discussing any concerns with a healthcare provider.
